California is facing a hunger crisis
Merced County Food Bank is with Esmeralda Soria
California is facing a hunger crisis — more than 1 in 5 households struggle with food insecurity, and the need is growing. At Merced County Food Bank, we serve over 41,000 people/households each month, but we can’t do it alone.
The CalFood program is a lifeline that enables food banks like ours to purchase locally grown food — including eggs, meat, and culturally familiar staples that are often expensive or rarely donated. It supports California farmers and helps us feed our neighbors.
But this vital program is on the chopping block. CalFood is facing a $50+ million drop in annual funding at the end of June — right when demand is surging and costs are rising.

We’re calling on our state leaders — @EsmeraldaSoria, @SenatorAnnaCaballero, and @AdamC.Gray — and the rest of #CALeg to act now.
Please prioritize $60M ongoing in CalFood funding in the #CABudget to help food banks across the state keep families nourished.
Let’s #LettuceFeedOurNeighbors, support California’s food economy, and protect access to food for the 6 million Californians relying on us each month.
